About PDFMagpie
Small, focused PDF tools that do their work on your own device, because you shouldn’t have to hand a stranger your payslip just to merge two pages.
What PDFMagpie is
PDFMagpie is a collection of 15 free tools for everyday PDF jobs: merging, splitting and reorganising pages, compressing files for upload limits, converting between PDFs and images, filling in and signing forms, adding page numbers and watermarks, password-protecting and unlocking files, and making scans searchable with OCR. Each tool does one job on one page, with the tool at the top and a plain explanation of how it works underneath.
Why everything runs in your browser
The documents people need PDF tools for are often their most sensitive: contracts, payslips, bank statements, ID scans and medical letters. Most online PDF services upload those files to a server, process them there and send them back. We think that’s an unnecessary risk for jobs a modern phone or laptop can do perfectly well by itself.
So every PDFMagpie tool runs inside your browser tab. When you open a tool, your browser downloads our code; when you choose a file, that code processes it on your device, and the result is saved straight to your downloads. Your files, file names and passwords are never sent to us. It also means there’s no upload or download wait, and no queue. How it’s funded
PDFMagpie is free, with no account, no daily limits and no watermarks. Because your device does the processing, we don’t pay for expensive servers to handle your files, so running the site costs little. Those costs are covered by a small number of clearly labelled ads from Google, placed below the explanatory text and never inside a tool or next to its buttons. The tools work just the same with an ad blocker.
We don’t sell data and we don’t run a data business. We never receive your files, so there’s nothing to sell. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what the ads and our cookieless analytics involve.
Who runs it
PDFMagpie is an independent, UK-based website operated by Infinity Square Labs Ltd. It isn’t part of any software company, and there’s nothing to upgrade to. The tools are built on well-established open-source libraries, including pdf-lib, PDF.js, qpdf and Tesseract, and each one is tested against a set of sample documents covering the awkward cases: rotated pages, odd page sizes, forms, scans and password-protected files.
Our standards
- Honest about limits. Compression is best-effort, OCR isn’t perfect, whiteout isn’t redaction, and a signature image isn’t a certificate-based digital signature. We say so on the page, before you start.
- Nothing added to your files. No watermarks, no branding, no hidden marks.
- Built for everyone. Tools are designed to work with a keyboard as well as a mouse, on phones as well as computers, and in light or dark mode.
