Terms of Use

Plain-English terms for a free service. By using PDFMagpie you agree to them, so please take a few minutes to read them.

Effective 6 October 2026

About these terms

These terms apply to your use of pdfmagpie.com and its tools (“PDFMagpie”, “the service”). The service is operated by Infinity Square Labs Ltd (“we”, “us”). Our registered office is 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4BS, United Kingdom. Infinity Square Labs Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 16880965. How we handle data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

If you use PDFMagpie on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the service.

The service

PDFMagpie provides free tools for working with PDF files and images, such as merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing and protecting them. The tools run in your web browser, on your device. We don’t receive, store or have access to the files you process.

  • The service is free and funded by advertising. There is no account, subscription or paid tier.
  • There are no daily task limits, sign-ups or watermarks; the practical limit on file size and number is your device’s memory.
  • We may add, change, suspend or remove tools or features at any time, for example to fix a problem or because a library we rely on changes. We’ll try to keep the service available, but we don’t guarantee it will always be.

Acceptable use

You agree to use PDFMagpie lawfully and responsibly. In particular, you agree:

  • to process only files you have the right to use: your own documents, or ones you have permission to copy, change or convert;
  • to use Unlock PDF only with a password you already know, and only on files you own or have permission to change. PDFMagpie does not guess, crack or recover passwords, and you must not try to use it to get around protection on documents you aren’t entitled to open or change;
  • not to use the tools to create forged, fraudulent or misleading documents, including placing someone else’s signature on a document without their authority;
  • not to infringe anyone’s copyright, privacy or other rights;
  • not to interfere with the website, its security or its advertising, for example by automated scraping at a volume that affects the service, attempting to break in, or generating fake ad impressions or clicks.

Your files and content

Your files remain yours. Because processing happens on your device, you are responsible for the files you open and for keeping copies of anything important. Always keep your original: some operations, such as compression, permanently remove detail from the processed copy. Check every output before you rely on it, send it or delete the original.

Signatures

Sign PDF places a visual electronic signature, meaning an image of your signature, on a document. It is not a certificate-based digital signature: it doesn’t cryptographically seal the document, prove your identity or show whether the file was changed later. Whether a visual signature is acceptable depends on the recipient, the type of document and the law that applies. We don’t provide legal advice, and you are responsible for deciding whether this kind of signature is suitable. Our guide Visual vs digital signatures explains the difference.

Passwords, whiteout and watermarks

  • Passwords: Protect PDF uses AES-256 encryption. We never see your password and cannot recover it if you forget it. Permission settings (such as “no printing”) are honoured only by compliant PDF readers.
  • Whiteout is not redaction: whiteout in Edit & fill covers content visually, but the original text stays in the file and can be recovered. Don’t rely on it to remove sensitive information.
  • Watermarks discourage reuse but can be removed by a determined person; they are not a security control.
  • OCR isn’t perfect. Check recognised text, especially names, numbers and dates, against the original.

No warranty

PDFMagpie is provided free, “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to make the tools accurate and reliable, but PDF files vary enormously and some use features our tools don’t support. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose, or that outputs will meet any particular legal, technical or formatting requirement.

Our liability

Because the service is free and runs on your own device, our liability is limited as follows, to the extent the law allows:

  • We are not liable for any loss of or damage to your files or data, including documents corrupted, altered or lost during processing. Please keep backups.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, business, revenue, opportunity or goodwill.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to £50.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. If you are a consumer, these terms don’t affect your statutory rights.

Intellectual property

The PDFMagpie name, logo, website design and written content belong to us. You may link to any page and quote short extracts with a link back, but please don’t copy our pages or present them as your own. The tools are built with open-source software, used under its licences; those projects keep their own rights.

The site shows advertising and contains links to other websites. We don’t control and aren’t responsible for advertisers’ products or other sites’ content. An ad appearing on PDFMagpie is not an endorsement. Ads are always labelled “Advertisement” and are never part of a tool; you never need to click an ad to use PDFMagpie or to download a file.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add tools or when the law changes. The effective date at the top shows the current version. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in another country, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts where you live, and to rely on the mandatory consumer protections of that country.
