Privacy Policy
PDFMagpie’s tools process your files on your own device. This policy explains the small amount of other data involved in running a free, ad-funded website, and the choices you have.
Summary
- Your files never leave your device. Every PDFMagpie tool runs in your web browser. Files, file names, page content and passwords you type are not sent to us or anyone else.
- We don’t have accounts and don’t ask for your name or email to use the tools.
- The site is funded by advertising from Google. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads, including personalised ads where you have agreed to them.
- We use cookieless analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) to count visits in aggregate.
- A few preferences are stored in your browser, such as your theme and tool settings, and, only if you ask, your saved signature. You can clear them at any time.
Who we are
This website, pdfmagpie.com (“PDFMagpie”, “we”, “us”), is operated by Infinity Square Labs Ltd, which is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Our registered office is 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4BS, United Kingdom. Infinity Square Labs Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16880965).
For any privacy question or request, email hello@pdfmagpie.com.
Your files
PDFMagpie processes your files entirely in your web browser using code that runs on your device. Your files, file names and any passwords you enter are not sent to our servers or anyone else’s. Like most websites, our pages load advertising and analytics scripts; these never receive your files.
When you open a file in a tool, it is read into your browser tab’s memory, processed there, and the result is saved straight to your device. Files are held in memory only and are cleared when you press Start over, close the tab or leave the page. We never write your files to your browser’s storage.
Some tools download extra code or data from our own website the first time you use them, for example the encryption engine for Protect and Unlock, fonts for the editor, and OCR language data (about 0.6–3 MB per language) for OCR PDF. These are ordinary downloads of our own static files, the same for everyone; the requests contain nothing about your document. Your browser may cache them so they don’t need downloading again.
Hosting and security logs
The site is a static website hosted on Cloudflare’s network. Like any web host, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse (for example, blocking denial-of-service attacks). We do not use this information to identify you. Cloudflare handles it under its own privacy policy and retention periods.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate, for example which tools are popular, which pages people arrive on, the referring website, and broad device, browser and country information. It does not use cookies or local storage, does not build a profile of you, and does not track you across other websites. Analytics never receives your files, file names, or anything you type into a tool.
Advertising and cookies
PDFMagpie is free because it shows a small number of ads, served by Google AdSense. Ads appear only in clearly labelled spaces below or beside our explanatory content, never inside a tool.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our visitors based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Where you do, or where you don’t consent, you may still see non-personalised ads, which are based on the page you are looking at rather than your history. These can still use cookies or similar technologies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
- For more about how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Google may use technical data such as your IP address, device identifiers and cookie IDs to deliver and measure ads and to detect invalid activity. Ad scripts run in their own containers and do not have access to your files, which never leave the tool’s memory.
Your consent choices
If you visit from the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any non-essential cookies or similar technologies are used for advertising. The consent message is provided by a Google-certified consent management platform. You can accept, reject, or choose by purpose and by vendor. If you don’t consent, Google may still show limited or non-personalised ads, as described above.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, using the privacy and cookie settings option provided with the consent message, or by clearing this site’s cookies in your browser, after which you will be asked again. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect anything that happened before.
Visitors in US states with privacy laws may be shown a notice explaining how to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.
The tools work in exactly the same way whatever you choose, and with an ad blocker.
Stored on your device
PDFMagpie stores a few small items in your own browser so the site remembers your choices. They are never sent to us.
| What | Where | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theme (light or dark) | Local storage, pm.theme | Remembers your colour theme if you change it | Until you clear it |
| Tool preferences | Local storage, pm.prefs.<tool> | Remembers last-used options, such as image resolution or OCR language. Never file data. | Until you clear it |
| Saved signature (opt-in) | IndexedDB, pm-signature | Only if you tick “Remember my signature” in Sign PDF; stores your signature and initials images | Until you delete it |
| Downloaded code and language data | Browser cache | Avoids downloading the same engine or OCR language files again | Managed by your browser |
To clear them: use Delete saved signature in Sign PDF to remove a saved signature, or clear this site’s data in your browser settings (often under “Cookies and site data”) to remove everything listed above. Advertising cookies set by Google and its partners are controlled through the consent choices and Google Ads Settings above.
If you email us
If you contact us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include. We use it only to reply and to deal with your request. We keep correspondence only as long as needed for that and any follow-up, normally no longer than two years, unless we need it longer for a legal reason. Please don’t send us documents: we never need them to help you.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
- Consent: for advertising cookies and personalised ads where consent is required, and for storing your signature if you choose to.
- Legitimate interests: to run, secure and improve the website (hosting logs and cookieless analytics), to show non-personalised ads that fund the free service, and to reply to messages. We have balanced these against your interests; they involve little data and nothing about your files.
- Strictly necessary storage: remembering your theme and tool settings on your device, which you ask for by using those features.
Sharing and international transfers
We don’t sell personal data and we don’t run a data business. The only organisations that process data in connection with the site are our hosting and analytics provider (Cloudflare) and our advertising provider (Google) and, where you consent, its advertising partners. Some of these organisations process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses with the UK addendum, as set out in their own terms.
We may disclose information if required by law.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of personal data we hold about you (access);
- ask us to correct inaccurate data (rectification) or delete it (erasure);
- ask us to restrict, or object to, how we use it, including objecting to processing based on legitimate interests;
- ask for data you gave us in a portable format (portability);
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.
Email hello@pdfmagpie.com to make a request. We’ll respond within one month. Because we never receive your files and don’t have accounts, we usually hold very little that can identify you; often only an email you sent us. For data held by Google or Cloudflare, you can also use the tools and contact details in their privacy policies.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or call 0303 123 1113. If you live in the EEA, you can contact your local data protection authority.
Children
PDFMagpie is a general-audience utility and isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy if the way the site works changes, for example if we ever add a tool that needs a server, which would be clearly marked on that tool. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
Effective date: 6 October 2026.
