This is a visual electronic signature — an image of your signature placed on the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature: it doesn’t cryptographically seal the document or verify identity. Whether it’s accepted depends on the recipient and jurisdiction.

How to sign a PDF without printing it

Use this to sign the paperwork that lands in your inbox: a tenancy agreement, a consent form, a supplier contract or a school trip slip. Create a signature by drawing it with a mouse, finger or stylus, typing your name in one of four handwriting styles, or uploading a photo of your signature on paper. Then place it, along with initials, today’s date, a tick or any text, wherever it’s needed.

  1. 1

    Open your PDF

Choose the document; it opens in a full-screen editor.

  2. 2

    Create your signature

Draw it, type it, or upload an image, in black or blue ink.

  3. 3

    Place and download

Drag and resize it, add the date or initials, then save.

Sign PDF features

  • Draw, type or upload your signature
  • Black or blue ink
  • Add initials, today’s date, ticks and text

  • Paper background removal for uploaded signature photos
  • Optional saved signature, kept only in your own browser

Signing without uploading: what happens to your document

Signing happens in this tab. The document and your signature stay on your device and are never uploaded.

When you save, each signature, date and text item is drawn permanently into the page, so it looks the same in every PDF reader and can’t be dragged off later. Uploaded signatures can have their white paper background removed, leaving only the ink.

This is a visual electronic signature: an image of your signature placed on the page. It isn’t a certificate-based digital signature, doesn’t cryptographically seal the document and doesn’t verify who you are. Whether it’s acceptable depends on the recipient and the jurisdiction; we can’t give legal advice.

Worked example

Signing a tenancy agreement on every page

A landlord wants your initials on each of 8 pages and a full signature with the date on page 8. Create your initials once, place them in the bottom corner of page 1, then use Copy to other pages and choose All pages. Go to page 8, add your signature above the line, then press Date and pick a format: 6 Oct 2026, 06/10/2026 or 10/06/2026. Arrow keys nudge any item by 1 point (Shift for 10), so lining up with the signature line is easy. Save, and every page carries your initials.

Good to know

  • Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen if you upload a photo; lower the background-removal threshold if a grey paper shade remains.
  • Remember my signature is off by default. Turn it on only on your own device; it stores the image in this browser and nowhere else.
  • Need to fill in form fields first? Use Edit & fill, then sign.
  • Read Visual vs digital signatures to understand what this kind of signature does and doesn’t prove.

Sign PDF: frequently asked questions

Is this legally binding?

Many organisations accept visual electronic signatures for everyday documents, but it depends on the recipient, the type of document and the jurisdiction. We can’t give legal advice; if in doubt, ask whoever asked you to sign.

What’s the difference from a digital signature?

A visual signature is an image on the page. A certificate-based digital signature uses cryptography to show who signed and whether the file was changed afterwards. This tool makes the first kind only.

Can I put my signature on every page?

Yes. Place it once, then use Copy to other pages and choose all pages or a range.

Do you keep my signature?

Only if you tick “Remember my signature”, and then only in your own browser. Delete it at any time with Delete saved signature.

Can I sign on my phone?

Yes. Draw your signature with your finger, place it with a tap, and resize it with the handles.
